No one told this Mommy of a now Kindergartner that there would be so much pressure to be at school events. It's a good thing I have a flexible schedule, because Adelaide sure lets me know if I miss something at school. When I missed Johnny Appleseed day I had to hear about it for about a week. I wasn't taking the chance of getting another scolding so off to elementary school I went. Much to my surprise I think every child in her class had a parent or two there. How is this possible, am I the only Mom who works outside of the home?
On to the event...I was a few minutes late but I made it. The kids were all outside and ready to start digging into their pumpkins. I thought that A would like to pull all of the guts out of the pumpkin, but I was wrong. In fact she wanted so little to do with it that she pretty much left me to do most of the carving and ran off to play with her friends. I have a feeling I just got a glimpse into my future.
After getting A away from the snack table and back to carving we decided to make an Adelaide pumpkin. Most of the other parents had elaborate stencils to use, but I'm not that crafty with a carving knife. Adelaide's job was to draw the face and my job was to carve. When it was done A was very proud of her creation and truly had a fabulous afternoon.
